Solar Industry Trends in 2025

Solar industry trends in 2025: What’s Next for Residential and Commercial Solar?

Trends in the solar industry continue to shine brighter than ever. ☀️With technological advancements and growing demand for renewable energy, the solar industry trend is booming. What does the solar landscape have in store for us this year? 🤔

Energy Storage Gets Popular 🔋

Energy storage will be a big trend in 2025 if energy storage solutions are integrated with solar systems. We see homeowners and businesses adopting solar-plus-storage setups, enabling them to store excess energy during peak hours or power outages. The falling costs of lithium-ion batteries and advancements in alternative storage technologies, such as solid-state and flow batteries, are making energy storage more accessible than ever.

For residential customers, this means greater energy independence and resilience. On the other hand, commercial clients benefit from reduced demand charges and enhanced grid reliability. 👍

Smart Solar Systems

Information at your fingertips

Smart technology is revolutionizing solar energy systems. Internet of Things (IoT) devices and AI-powered software enable real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and optimized energy usage.

Residential users can now control their solar panels, inverters, and batteries through smartphone apps, while businesses are using data analytics to maximize their ROI.

Here’s a screenshot of our monitoring platform where Solar Ascent clients can monitor their solar panel production.

Community Solar in NS Gains Momentum

In the spring of 2024, the Province of Nova Scotia launched a Community Solar Program. The first-of-its-kind in Canada allows community groups and organizations to set up solar gardens on their properties and sell subscriptions to the electricity they produce from the solar gardens. A community solar garden is a large area with many solar panels (like the rooftop of a large industrial building or a large piece of land could become a community solar garden). A 1-megawatt community solar garden requires about 4 to 6 acres of land.

Government Incentives and Policies

While the government supports the drive for solar adoption, tax credits, rebates, and net metering programs lower the investment cost for residential and commercial systems. This means lower upfront costs. To learn more, visit our Rebates and Financing page.

Focus on Sustainability and Circular Economy

Did you know that solar panels are 90% recyclable by mass? As solar grows, some manufacturers are innovating in the construction industry by using panels made from recycled materials, such as plastic bottles.  This promotes a circular economy, which we are fans of.

Hybrid and Off-Grid Systems

Hybrid solar systems, which combine solar power with other renewable sources like wind or hydro, are gaining popularity. Off-grid systems are also becoming more viable, thanks to advancements in storage and microgrid technologies- even Halifax’s Dalhousie University! These solutions appeal to those in remote areas looking for complete energy independence and/or backup support when the power goes out.

Conclusion

The solar industry in 2025 is marked by innovation. Whether you’re a homeowner looking to lower your energy bills or a business aiming to meet sustainability goals, now is the perfect time to explore solar energy solutions.
