Understanding Our Solar Technologies

Feb 27, 2019

We’ve written a lot on the blog about the overall benefits and need-to-know information about solar energy, but today we wanted to take a deeper dive into the technologies we use.

We’ve partnered with some of the best solar companies on the market to provide top of the line programming software and equipment for your system.

Let’s take a closer look.

Designing your solar energy system with Aurora Solar.

The very first step in getting started with solar energy is to create a proposal for your home, which you can request here. With nothing more than your address and last electricity bill, the system can generate a complete engineered design of your future system. This info is put into a proposal, which includes an estimate on the size system you’ll need, your energy savings, financial savings, and much more. You can read more about the initial proposal here.

After this, we’ll visit your home and create a slightly more detailed design that will give us the exact numbers.

For both the initial proposal and the follow up design, we use a programming system called Aurora Solar. We chose to work with Aurora because it is the most accurate software in the industry and allows us to create a highly accurate and detailed customized solar design for your home. Like any construction project, the majority of cost changes and delays can be mitigated with smart planning and design.

Installing the best equipment with SolarEdge.

While the perfect design is crucial, so is using the best technology on the market. That’s why we use equipment from SolarEdge, the industry leader in grid-tied applications in North America. SolarEdge uses DC Optimizers to ensure that you get the best results from your solar energy system. The PV modules in most solar panels are wired together like Christmas tree lights- if one module under performs for any reason, all of the modules on that string will also under perform.

SolarEdge does things differently. Each PV module is connected to an intelligent electronic chip called a power optimizer, allowing each module to operate individually. This means that if one module under performs (due to things like cloud cover, dust accumulation, etc.), the rest of the system won’t be affected.

The system also includes an advanced monitoring system, which you can use to see the energy savings roll in in real time from your handheld device.

You can check out a demo of the SolarEdge Monitoring system here.

From the first initial report to the final installation, we’ve got you covered with the best technologies on the market! Couple this with our passion for and expertise in solar energy, and you’ve got a system you can really count on.
